E Locrian Major

E · F♯ · G♯ · A · B♭ · C · D

Also called the Arabian scale, E Locrian Major pairs a major third with a flattened fifth, sixth, and seventh — a major-sounding bottom half over a locrian top. That split personality makes it a strong choice over altered dominant chords, and it's the second mode of the harmonic major scale. Distinctive and genuinely useful in jazz.
