A♯ Phrygian

A natural minor scale with a flattened second, A♯ Phrygian has a dark, Spanish-tinged sound created almost entirely by that semitone step at the bottom. It's central to flamenco, and metal players lean on it heavily for menacing riffs. Emphasise the move between the root and the flat second and the character is unmistakable.
