E♭dim
E♭ Diminished · 4 fingerings
The diminished triad stacks two minor thirds, giving E♭dim a flat third and a flat fifth and a distinctly unstable, unresolved sound. It rarely sits still — it usually appears in passing, as a chromatic step between two stronger chords, or as the vii chord leading home. Common in jazz, classical, and older pop, and a useful bit of tension in almost any style.
