The six-nine chord adds both the sixth and the ninth to a major triad, so E69 is lush and completely at rest — all colour, no tension. It's a signature sound of bossa nova, cool jazz, and lounge playing, and it makes a beautiful final chord in place of a plain major. Rich enough that it rarely needs anything else around it.
