The dominant thirteenth is the fullest of the dominant extensions, adding the thirteenth above the seventh and ninth so that E13 sounds lush and forward-moving at once. Guitarists drop notes to make it playable, usually keeping the third, seventh, and thirteenth. It's the sound of big-band jazz and sophisticated soul.
