D/F♯

A slash chord: a D major triad with F♯ in the bass instead of the root. The chord above stays the same — only the lowest note changes — which lets D/F♯ walk the bass by step through a progression while the harmony holds. A simple trick that makes ordinary chord sequences sound considerably more composed.
