Am/E

A slash chord: a A minor triad with E in the bass instead of the root. Changing the bass note keeps the harmony intact while shifting the chord's weight, which is what makes Am/E so useful for creating smooth, stepwise bass lines under a progression. Depending on the key it may be an inversion of the triad or a pedal tone underneath it.
